Neif is a typical dwarf as he has a deep unwavering affection for gold. Unlike other dwarves, he has some unconventional ideas about how to get it. Alchemy, the combined dream of science and magic that turns common base metals into precious gold, has long been Neif’s obsession.

His most outstanding achievement was to successfully transmute gold into lead. This was much to the anger of the other dwarves because, despite this breakthrough for alchemical science, he hasn't figured out how to turn it back. Given both his devotion to his work and his damning record of transmutation, he is kept at arm's length from the tip jar of the Hammer and Crown at all times.
