Upon meeting Spud it's not uncommon to get the impression that he is as daft as a bag of hammers. Something about Spud just seems to create this idea that he's not exactly a bright spark. It could be his penchant for licking strange minerals, his hobby of throwing roof shingles at trolls, or even his recent efforts to teach goats to count.

However, those wise enough to regard this first impression with scepticism find that he has an inquiring mind, a joyful spirit, and the courage to question assumptions without caring how silly that may seem. Admittedly, sometimes the prevailing assumption turns out to be correct, and the strange rock he's just licked tastes as bad as all the others before it.

Spud is well-regarded in Overstone, even by the rash few who've taken him at face value, as he naturally brings an enthusiasm to day-to-day life that others can only envy.
